Klein Launched a New Hair Clog Drain Cleaning Tool
8+ hour, 55+ min ago (194+ words) Dec 9, 2025 Stuart 1 Comment I discovered that Klein Tools launched a new "drain snake auger hair clog removal tool" (model 53020) on Amazon. There are a number of hair clog drain clearing tools at Home Depot, Lowe's, and other home centers. The new Klein tool is familiar but also seems to combine features from a couple of different design approaches. The starter set comes with a rotating handle and 3 barbed refills. I couldn't find any info on where you can get more refills. Each of the included 3 snakes features 18 inches of reach. Klein says that the dual action tip has micro-hooks that grab while the barbs pull, helping to remove tough drain clogs. I'm reminded of the Drain Weasel. Amazon has a handle with 5 refills for $20, and Home Depot has a handle with 2-refills for $7. There's also the Zip-It barbed tool, which…...
Gerber Fastball Review: MagnaCut Makes a Difference
17+ hour, 9+ min ago (958+ words) We got our hands on the original Gerber Fastball back in 2019. More than six years later, I still use that knife on a regular basis. Now, there's a new MagnaCut version to consider as well. In this review, I'll share why the design makes it such a solid go-to EDC and help you decide which version is the best for your needs. The original Fastball uses Crucible Industries' S30V steel and black oxide coating for the blade. As one of the early "super steel" members, S30V strikes a balance of solid corrosion resistance with moderate toughness, edge retention, and sharpening ease. Gerber has a bit of magic in their grind with the S30V steel, though. The Fastball seems to hold its edge better than other knives I have that use the same steel. MagnaCut steel is also from Crucible Industries and has been…...
Check out this Fiskars Home Essentials Tool Set
18+ hour, 55+ min ago (237+ words) Dec 9, 2025 Stuart Discuss I came across this Fiskars 6pc "Home Essentials" tool set, and it seemed worth sharing about. Fiskars also describes this as a "home tools gift set," and I can definitely see that. This tool set comes with a utility knife, bypass pruner, shears, folding saw that works with most 6" reciprocating saw blades, PowerGear lopper, and an IsoCore hammer. I'm not sure I've seen such a collection of general purpose tools and pruning tools before, but I guess it works. By my estimate, based on Amazon pricing the set comes with around $141 in tools if purchased separately. Thus, the way I see it, you're buying 5 tools and getting 1 for free. That doesn't save you a lot, but this could be a decent one-stop kit for new homeowners who aren't sure what tools they'll need, especially if they have any…...

There's no savings cap or limit to this promo, meaning you save 10% whether your order total is $400 or $4,000. Fine print: Eligible items must be in Acme Tools' Makita outdoor power equipment category, coupon expires 11:59pm CT 12/31/25, and will not stack with other order coupons or promotions. I am told it should stack on top of certain per-item promotions. Some of you would prefer to buy Makita for the reputation, quality, service, compatibility with your existing tools, or maybe a different reason....

How do Retailers like Home Depot and Lowe’s Influence the Tool Industry?
1+ day, 14+ hour ago (1855+ words) Dec 8, 2025 Stuart Discuss Home Depot and Lowe's seem to have some form of control over the direction of the tool industry. How? Why? Aren't there other large tool retailers? What most people don't consider is that Home Depot and Lowe's are customers in the brand-retailer relationship. The details are complex, but they both are essentially customers, and tool brands the suppliers. Let's say you are a baker that supplies restaurants with cupcakes. You came up with a new style of cupcake that requires new equipment that can only be justified if you sell large quantities. Your biggest customer says "nah, we'll pass on this one." Can you still justify putting the time, effort, and expense into the new cupcake? We have seen examples of this from tool companies such as Stanley Black & Decker (Dewalt, Craftsman, Irwin). To major tool brands,…...
Lowe’s is Heavily Discounting Skil Cordless Power Tools
1+ day, 19+ hour ago (257+ words) Dec 8, 2025 Stuart Discuss Lowe's has heavily discounted a lot of Skil cordless power tools, specifically all of the models that are available for pickup at stores in my area. This effectively looks like a clearance sale, as they try to reduce in-store inventory, similar to what Lowe's has done with the Flex tools in their inventory. As you might know, Skil and Flex are both owned by the same manufacturer, Chervon. The discount on Skil tools varies, but most of the items that can be picked up locally are now 50% off. Two of the less expensive accessory types tools, a work light and small fan, are 33% off. Many of the Skil tools that were included in Lowe's blowout sale last month " see Massive Discounts on Flex and Skil Tools at Lowe's " are showing as out of stock. We've heard rumors…...
Best Cordless Reciprocating Saw: Head-to-Head Testing Results
1+ day, 22+ hour ago (1909+ words) " Jump to this Cordless Reciprocating Saw Note that the scoring is different from our normal rating system. The scores are based on how each reciprocating saw performed and compared in this specific group and this set of tests only. Our typical rating system offers a comparison of the tool to the entire range of what is available. Here's how to interpret the scores from this test: Like you'll see with all of the highest-performing models in our tests, it's heavier than most. It's also pricey. However, if you're looking for the best overall cordless reciprocating saw, Makita claims the crown. Narrowly coming in second place, Metabo HPT's 36V reciprocating saw is an impressive demo tool. It went toe-to-toe with Makita in our wood cutting tests, though it slipped slightly when it came to cutting cast iron. Still, it shared the lead…...
2+ day, 16+ hour ago (724+ words) Dec 7, 2025 Stuart Discuss It has been wildly suggested that Makita tools could potentially be sold at Lowe's stores, but I strongly doubt that this is a possibility. There are some shifts in the cordless power tool industry right now, with Flex seemingly being shoved out of Lowe's stores, and there has been a lot of speculation about what happens next. I've been seeing a lot of wild guesses. For example, I've seen theories that "maybe EGO is going back to Home Depot, and Flex along with them," and "maybe Makita is taking the place of Flex at Lowe's." Neither seem plausible. EGO was once exclusive at Home Depot. Home Depot made a surprise announcement that they were dropping EGO, and the next day Lowe's and EGO announced a new partnership. Word is that EGO broke the exclusivity and that's why…...
Commuting Made Easy: NAVEE GT3 Max Electric Scooter
2+ day, 21+ hour ago (602+ words) A few years back, my young son received an electric scooter for Christmas, and let me tell ya, he was thrilled! Ever since then, I've had my eyes peeled for one of my very own. Now, I've got my hands on the NAVEE GT3 Max Electric Scooter to see what it has to offer for daily commuters and casual riders alike! The NAVEE GT3 Max can support up to 265 pounds, which is pretty impressive when compared to the competition! It's powered by a brushless 400W motor (nominal) and only weighs 49 pounds. This scooter three speed modes, with a top speed of 20 mph on level ground. NAVEE estimates you'll get a maximum range of 47 miles, but keep in mind that your total range is dependent on which mode you select. In Walking mode, the scooter can match someone on a brisk walk. You can…...
